The Table Mountain Concert Series Will Not Be Part of This Year’s Modified Big Fresno Fair Event

The popular Table Mountain Concert Series presented by Coors Light and Toyota in the Paul Paul Theater will not be part of the modified 2020 Big Fresno Fair. The Fair has been working with the Fresno County Department of Public Health on a satisfactory plan for concerts, however the Health Department decided it would not approve concerts in the Paul Paul Theater at the 2020 Fair event.

For those individuals who had purchased concert tickets to one of the four announced 2020 shows (Becky G, Ezra Ray Hart, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and The Isley Brothers), refunds will automatically be issued to the credit card the tickets were purchased on. Refunds will be processed beginning July 15 and may take up to 10 days to show on the credit card. If you have questions, please email info@fresnofair.com or call (559) 650-FAIR.

Despite the fact that the Paul Paul Theater will go dark this year, Big Fresno Fair Management and staff continue to work in collaboration with the Fresno County Department of Public Health to bring a modified version of this longstanding tradition to the community – all while aligning with local, State and CDC guidelines for the health and safety of staff and the community. For more details on plans, go to www.fresnofair.com/modifiedfairplans

“The Big Fresno Fair is our community’s fair. We are committed to being here for our community in some capacity and will continue to find ways to connect, give back and keep part of the Fair tradition alive, while upholding the health and safety of our Fairgoers, staff and community,” said Stacy Rianda, Deputy Manager II, The Big Fresno Fair.

The Fresno County Historical Museum is adding three historic signs to its collection! Fairgoers will now be able to see signs from The Fresno Bee, Dan Day Pontiac, and Winton’s Vista Pharmacy.

The Fresno Bee, located on E St. near downtown Fresno, closed their doors in February 2020. The building was built in the early 1970s as a production facility which housed the pressroom and circulation departments. The current Bee building is now closed and for sale. Recently, the publication made the move to relocate into the Bitwise 41 building, located on Ventura and R streets.

The old Dan Day Pontiac Dealership sign was recently donated by Jim and Debbie Christian. The dealership used to be located in downtown Fresno. Now, the vintage piece will live in the garden of neon signs surrounding the Paul Paul Theater!

Winton’s Vista Pharmacy was a staple in Southeast Fresno since 1932. The Winton family who owned the drugstore made the difficult decision to close their doors in 2018. The family has donated their original sign to the Fresno County Historical Museum to join the other dozens of historic signs around the Paul Paul Theater.

Looking for some inspiration on what to create for the 2020 Big Fresno Fair Competitive Exhibits? Check out one of our exhibitors, Ryan Cox, who has entered into The Big Fresno Fair’s Competitive Exhibits for the past four years. At the 2019 Big Fresno Fair, Ryan submitted his hard-to-forget art piece titled “Ursus Kodiak,” which was an 11 ft. tall bear made completely of metal located in the Fine Arts & Photography building. The project took approximately 125 hours to complete. It has a “skeleton” of sorts with “fur” to cover it. There are over 16,000 individual cuts of metal in total! You can find this amazing work of art now located in Iron Mountain by the Pavilion Stage.

This year, Ryan will be entering three new projects for the 2020 Big Fresno Fair’s Competitive Exhibits. Be on the look-out for a 6’8” Gladiator, Chewbacca from Star Wars and an oversized African lion located in the Fine Arts & Photography building! Entering pieces into the Fair is an exciting way for him to see people’s reactions as they take a look at his one-of-a-kind art pieces. Showing art at the Fair for him is a great way to help gain exposure from thousands of people who cross paths with his pieces of art.

Some words of advice from Ryan, “I would encourage people to enter for pretty much the same reasons – the chance to display your work, possibly sell it, the value and to be a part of the arts community.”

It’s that time for YOU to start getting creative and let your hands work their magic! The Competitive Exhibits Handbook is now available online. Deadline for online entries is Monday, September 14. Deadline for hard entries is Friday, September 11. Questions? Call our Exhibits Office at (559) 650-3213. For more details, click here.
