Every exhibitor has a story, and we’re excited to share a few as we count down to the Jr. Livestock Auction 🐐
Meet Marissa Dilley, a Fresno-Central FFA exhibitor from Central High School!
“I joined FFA to learn more about agriculture and livestock. As part of my FFA program project, I raised a market goat last year. I learned how to care for my goat, train him for competition, and market him for auction at the Fresno Fair. I really enjoyed competing with other students from different FFA chapters. I did pretty good for my first year and learned a lot. I also made a lot of great memories and friendships. FFA is important to me because it has provided me with so many great opportunities and experiences.
My animal project this year is another market goat. I named my goat Kevin. Kevin is a larger goat than my goat from last year, so I have been learning a lot of new things. It was challenging to get him used to walking with a harness because he is so strong but I did it. I am so excited to compete with Kevin at the Fresno Fair this year and can’t wait to see how well we do!”
Help support Marissa and fellow 4-H and FFA exhibitors by participating in the Jr. Livestock Auction as a buyer or through an add-on bid. Every contribution makes a difference.

The countdown to the Jr. Livestock Auction continues as we shine a spotlight on the students behind the projects 🐑
Meet Jacob Alvarez, a Fresno-Central FFA exhibitor who is a student at Central High School!
“I got involved after one of my friends said ‘Hey let’s do this.’ This has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This program is important to me because it not only teaches me more about these animals that get shown but also the process of everything. It teaches me about things I wouldn’t have known without joining.
My goat project has been an adventure. From the first day I got my goat, he was always very shy. But as he’s gotten to know me and me to know him, we’ve grown closer than I expected. This didn’t happen overnight, I’ve spent multiple hours after school and during summer to earn his trust and since then he’s been one heck of a project. The one thing he’s taught me is, patience is key.”

Every exhibitor has a story, and we’re excited to share a few as we count down to the Jr. Livestock Auction 🐐
Meet Emma Hall, a Reedley FFA exhibitor from Reedley High School:
“I got involved with FFA because, before high school, my parents had told me that they had shown animals like pigs at their local fairs. I thought that sounded fun, so I gave it a shot and enjoyed it. After showing that chicken, I realized how fun it could be if I just participated, which led me to participate more and more in the program till I reached where I am today.
FFA holds a very special place in my heart, as I met many people, I would consider very close friends and some even family. I found a place where I feel like I belong, and everyone in FFA is such a kind and honest person that I strive to be like. Furthermore, FFA is something I truly enjoy. I’m very competitive, and FFA really nurtures that with all their competitions while also teaching me to be a good sport and encouraging me to study topics I didn’t even know I was interested in!
This year I am showing a Boer goat named Douglas! Douglas and I work very hard every day on training and showmanship. Through all the hardships we’ve faced, Douglas is still going strong! He is currently 4 months old and is growing up to be big and strong.”
