From lobster fries to cinnamon rolls, it’s something we all love to indulge in! Many of our favorite food concessionaires have been greatly affected and have lost work from the recent cancellation of Fairs, but luckily we’ve been able to help support some of our local Fair food concessionaires with our most recent drive-thru event of “Fair Food Feature!” Even though we’re just giving a small taste of Fair food now, we hope to have them back again in October for the 2020 Big Fresno Fair!

WFA’s Fairgrounds Appreciation Month – Entertainers

We love our entertainers that roam the Fairgrounds during the annual Big Fresno Fair. We love our entertainers that roam the Fairgrounds during the annual Big Fresno Fair. They are the ones who bring smiles to the faces of Fairgoers with their jokes, magic tricks, balloon animals and so much more. Beyond the characters they play while roaming our grounds are real people, some with families who have had their sources of income completely cut off with the cancellation of fairs and events throughout the US.

As a family of fairs, our hearts go out to our beloved entertainers. And we hold onto the hope that this October, they will return to our Fairgrounds spreading smiles, laughter and joy to our Fairgoers – just as they have always done!

Giving back to our community is a core focus of The Big Fresno Fair, but we aren’t alone. Hundreds of fairs throughout California and the nation find ways to give back and one of them is through hosting food drives to help feed their communities.

At The Big Fresno Fair, we have hosted food drives for the last 11 years! During that time, we together with our community have collected nearly 2 million pounds of food! That food has produced more than 1.5 million meals to help feed those in need.🥫🌆🎡

Imagine that multiplied by all the fairs in their own community. That is a lot of need impacted by fairs and fairgrounds. For that, and more, we are grateful for all our fairs throughout the state and nation!

Fairgrounds Appreciation Month – Livestock

Fairs were built on the foundation of agriculture and livestock. Now, 136 years later, the livestock exhibit is one of the biggest aspects of the annual Big Fresno Fair, and at year round community events. Fairs were built on the foundation of agriculture and livestock. Now, 136 years later, the livestock exhibit is one of the biggest aspects of the annual Big Fresno Fair, and at year round community events. Our Fair, and others throughout California and the nation provide a platform for our 4-H and FFA youth to connect with one another, share their agricultural knowledge with the community, develop their marketing and public speaking skills and just continue to grow as leaders in our communities.

Fairs also serve as connection point between agriculture and our urban populations – telling the story of our food supply, providing education on the variety and characteristics of livestock, how to properly care for them and more. Many kids will see their first cow or pig at their local fair.

For this and so much more we are grateful for fairs throughout the state, nation and world. We hope you are too. Join us and show your appreciation for  the incredible way fairs and fairgrounds serve their communities.

The Big Fresno Fair family is saddened by the passing of long-time board member, Ardie Der Manouel. Ardie served on the Board of Directors at the Fair from 1992 – 2011, making him the longest serving Director in the history of the 21st District Agricultural Association. He was an advocate for the Fair’s horse racing program where he tirelessly traveled throughout the state meeting with owners, trainers and jockeys to recruit them to Fresno and maintain the high standard of excellence of the Fair’s horse racing program.

In the ‘80s before he was a Director, Ardie worked with Brian Tatarian, who was chairman of the horse racing committee and now serves as a Friend of the Fair board member, to educate board members on horse racing and assist with growing the horse racing program. With the dedicated time and love given from Ardie, The Big Fresno Fair has grown to be a polished, professional and highly respected track, drawing in top owners, jockeys and trainers today.

Our deepest condolences go out to Ardie’s family and friends. His legacy will live on through the hearts of The Big Fresno Fair.
